Missions at First UMC
|
Putting our faith to work in the world motivates Ozark FUMC to be active in missions. This is seen in both our mission statement,
“To be an obedient community of faith, believing, praising and loving God as revealed in Jesus Christ as we respect, encourage
and serve our neighbors.”
Ozark Boys and Girls Club, the Dale County Rescue Mission, Vivian B. Adams School and many other local mission agencies are supported
financially and with volunteers by our congregation. In addition, we support several individuals and families involved in full time
mission work. They represent such agencies as Operation Mobilization, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Quessua Mission near Malanje, Angola,
and Child Voice International in Uganda. We have provided financial support for “Nothing But Nets” as well as for numerous
others mission organizations.
In recent years, Ozark UMC has been active through donations and a work team with Alabama Rural Ministry; we have sent four (4) work
teams to Bayou La Batre, Alabama to assist after Hurricane Katrina; dental mission teams to Mexico. We are the first tier Red Cross
evacuation shelter for the city of Ozark.
Even the youth and children are actively involved in missions. The youth have a Mission Monday project each month. UMKids are collecting
funds to dig a well in Africa as part of the Water for Life campaign.
For more information on becoming involved through donations or being a part of a work team, please contact the church office.
